Morjesta! Olen Tomi Haapoja, 23-vuotias miehen järkäle Etelä-Pohjamaalta, Kauhavalta. Jos mietitään suunnittelun kannalta, niin hullut ja luovat ideat on se meikäläisen juttu. Loputon uteliaisuuteni ja halu oppia uutta kiskoo minua raketin lailla, pois rajoittavasta ilmakehästä kohti uusia galakseja.

Meteor Jam on itseasiassa koripalloheitto, jossa pelaaja hyppää ilmaan ja heittää pallon alaspäin koriraudan läpi todella kaukaa. Tästä sain idean malliston nimelle, koska haluan sen olevan harvinainen ja näyttävä pamahdus, joka saa haukkomaan henkeä. Aivan kuten oikea Meteor Jam. Meteoriitit, asteroidit, avaruus ja astronautit ovat olleet suurimpana inspiraationani. 2015 loppupuolella näin elokuvan ”Yksin Marsissa” ja se jätti minuun pysyvän jäljen. Ajatus siitä, millaisia kenkiä käytettäisiin toisilla planeetoilla, kiehtoi minua enemmän kuin mikään muu.

Seuraavan kymmenen vuoden sisällä teemme ensimmäisen miehitetyn lennon Marsiin. Samaan aikaan irroitamme lohkareen asteroidista, jonka tuomme takaisin maahan. Halusin lähteä kehittämään jalkineita, joilla voisi kuvitella kävelevänsä asteroidin tai Marsin pinnalla. Jalkineita ei erityisemmin ole tarvinnut ottaa huomioon avaruuskävelyjä tehdessä, mutta tulevaisuudessa mm. kumartuminen, kyykistyminen ja muut liikeradat vaativat avaruuskengältä enemmän ominaisuuksia.

Futuristinen mallistoni tulee sisältämään osittain kierrätysmateriaaleja, lähinnä pohjissa ja pehmusteissa. Erilaiset valot ja sähkökomponentit löytävät myös paikkansa, niin kengistä kuin laukuistakin. Vaikka en tietenkään pysty luomaan todellisia, ääriolosuhteita kestäviä avaruuskenkiä, toivon mallistoni herättävän ideoita ja ajatuksia kohti kehittyneempää tulevaisuutta.

Hello there! I’m Tomi Haapoja, 23 years old guy from South Ostrobothnia of Finland, city called Kauhava. If we think about designing, then all crazy and creative ideas are my kind of thing. The endless curiosity and itch to learn something new drives me forward like a rocket, out of the restrictive atmosphere to the new galaxies.

Meteor Jam is actually a basketball dunk, where player jumps in the air and throws the ball downwards through the hoop from afar. This gave me an idea for the name of my collection, because I want it to be rare, ambitious slam that will make you catch your breath. Just like a real Meteor Jam. Meteors, asteroids, space and astronauts have been my biggest inspiration. Before 2015 ended, I saw a movie called ”The Martian” and it made it’s mark on me. Thoughts about what kind of shoes would be used in other planets, fascinated me more than anything.

In the next ten years we will make our first manned flight to Mars. At the same time we will cut off part from an asteroid and then bring it back to earth. I wanted to develop shoes that you possibly could use on the surface of an asteroid or Mars. Before now, space shoes haven’t had that much of an attention when making space walks, but in the future all the crouching and other movement will require more features from the space shoes.

My futuristic collection will include recycled materials, mostly in soles and paddings. All kinds of lights and electrical components will allso find their places in shoes and even in bags. Even though I cannot create real, extreme circumstances lasting space shoes, I hope my collection will bring ideas and thoughts for more sustainable future.
