Art Deco -taiteilijat löysivät inspiraationsa sekä geometrisistä muodoista että koristeellisuudesta. Ensimmäisen maailmansodan jälkeisenä aikana oli tarve elää hetkessä ja se näkyi myös tyylisuunnan rohkeudessa ja värikkyydessä. Tutankhamonin haudan ja sen tuhansien aarteiden löytyminen näkyivät taidesuunnan muotokielessä. Myös muut eksoottiset ja mystiset kulttuurit kiehtoivat ja sysäsivät aikakauteen väriä. Jalkine- ja asustemallistoni Northern Geometry on saanut inspiraationsa Art Decosta. Mallistossa nähdään geometrisia muotoja, värejä ja kuparin kiiltoa. Malliston pohjoinen ulottuvuus näkyy ennen kaikkea materiaalivalintoina, mutta myös tietynlaisena pohjoismaalaisena selkeänä muotoiluna. Koivu, kupari, sähköjohdot ja laserkuvioitu nahka taipuvat geometrisiin muotoihin.

Searching for the right mood. Pyramids, staircases and Art Deco artworks had a great influence in my design process.

Art Deco is a mixture of modern, geometric style and decorative language. It responded to the need for pleasure and escape after the horrors of the First World War. It offered bold and colourful design and celebrated the Machine Age. The discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamun in 1922 influenced Art Deco and soon Egyptian as well as other distant and ancient cultures were seen in the images and motifs of the Art Deco designers. Northern Geometry collection draws inspiration from Art Deco. Geometric shapes and colours play a particular role in the collection. Birch, copper, wires and laser-cut leather bend into geometrical shapes.

Olen materiaalilähtöinen suunnittelija. Minulle vanhat sähköjohdot, kupariputket ja riekaleiset nahkatakin jämät ovat aarteita. Niistä kaikista voi tehdä jotain uutta ja toimivaa. Arvostan käytännöllisyyttä ja mukavuutta, mutta visuaalisuus ja esteettisyys ohjaavat suunnitteluani yhtä lailla.

My design process starts usually by searching the materials. Old wires, copper tubes and worn-out leather jackets are trash for someone, for me they are treasures. They are materials that can be used to make something new. I value comfort and functionality in my design. Visual aesthetics is also equally important.
