We can be heroes
Once I watched a documentary about David Bowie and it just catched me. His music, his style, his attitude, everything about him was so fascinating and glamorous. Born in 1947 in Brixton, London he managed to become one oft the heroes of our time. He was a musician, singer, producer, actor and painter. He had many faces and nobody really knew when he was acting or just being. He always wanted to do something new and that made him a trendsetter. His style transformed through the decades, but he was always surprising.

An elementary part of his style were the suits he wore. He began wearing suits in the 70´s during his soul period. Over the last few decades he reinvented the suit a couple of times, though it was always extravagant and glorious. He went from Hippie to Glam to Soul and necoclassicism and a lot more. You never knew what he was doing next, but you knew it would be incredible.

What I like most about Bowie is his skill to mix fabrics and embellishment without looking trashy. That is a hard thing to do, but he always managed it. That is also one oft he main parts of my inspiration. Throughout my collection there will be different kind of fabrics and embellishment. I want to mix fabrics like velvet and cottonfabrics with gemstones and sequinfabric.

The goal of my collection will be the symbiosis of classic pattern, based on the suit styles of Bowie, with interesting fabrics, embellishment and colours. All of those parts are inspired somehow by David Bowie. He was inspiring while he lived and he will be long after. Sadly Bowie passed away in January due to cancer.
Bowies attitude is what I want to express. The collection will look classic, glamorous and like an ode to he man who fell to earth.

This topic was in my head for almost 2 years. While I was studying fashion design at Angewandte Kunst Schneeberg in Germany I always wanted to use this inspiration, but for the semester projects it wasn´t fitting. I wanted it to become a special theme for a collection. So that´s why I am so happy to have the opportunity to do a whole collection about him here in Finland.
